AVID
About Us
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a full-year elective class that prepares students to attend a four-year college upon graduation from high school. We prepare our students with note-taking strategies, reading and text annotation strategies, grade monitoring, in-class tutoring with college students, career awareness opportunities, college awareness opportunities, field trips to local CSU/UC/Private Universities with guided tours, SAT preparation, college application assistance, and financial aid application assistance.
Mission Statement
The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. The AVID College Readiness System is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance for students in grades K–12. AVID comes from the Latin root avidus, meaning “eager for knowledge.” A well-developed AVID system restructures the teaching methods of an entire school and opens access to rigorous curricula, raising advanced-level course enrollments and increasing the number of students attending college.
